Women and the Word: THE REVIVAL Documentary Film

Four years ago, 50 friends gathered in a small living room in Washington, D.C. for a poetry event called THE REVIVAL. The host, Jade Foster, dreamed of building a safe space where queer women and allies could celebrate being black, women, and carriers of the word. In 2012, the event evolved into a nine-day tour that swept eight cities, touched thousands of lives, and connected five exceptional women. This documentary, Women and the Word, is the story of how that dream came to be.

The Colored Girls Hustle Hard Mixtape is an adventure in creating movements — in our bodies, in our spirits, with our voices. By using powerful beats and powerful words, Colored Girls Hustle is inspiring audacious self-expression, authentic living and bold movements in the world. They combine their lived experiences as Black women with the bravado, swag, and pride of hip-hop to honor who they are and who they’re becoming. They tell their own stories, making songs about courage, health and wellness, community building, living outside of a box, and integrity. They’re making music that celebrates their funky-fresh boldness! Who else is rapping about Black women’s self-love over a Rick Ross beat?!

Pier Kids: The Life by Elegance Bratton

The Pier is just a few blocks from Stonewall where the 1969 riots took place. Riots that were started by Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera. So there’s no Gay Rights Movement without them, no gays in the military without them, and no gay marriage without them. Yet Marsha and Sylvia were transgender, poor, Black, and Latina. They were even the same age as many of the pier kids today. Pier Kids: The Life is a documentary about the homeless gay and transgender youth who call the Christopher Street Pier home.

Entangled With You

Entangled with You is a romantic drama-comedy series about couples who complicate each other’s lives post separation. The web-series follows the lives of two new roommates, one a lesbian writer and the other a perky straight woman, who are each riding emotional roller-coasters with their respective significant others. The smash hit series has earned awards for ‘Outstanding Performance in a Dramedy.’

Take the LGBT History App to the Next Level

Quist needs your help to add new features, reach more people, and increase the scope of the researched historical content. Quist instantly proved there was need and demand for a mobile app about LGBTQ and HIV history when it was downloaded 10,000 times in just 2 weeks when it launched in July 2013. Today it has been downloaded in over 90 countries around the world. See the infographic of where in this interactive map. This project started off as a small dream and when the app’s success exploded, a lot of praise came in, but also several requests for new features. Since the app is free, the income from companies paying for ads and users paying to remove ads just covers the ongoing expenses of server hosting, bug-fixing, and basic promotion.
