Laverne Cox Receives Highest Honor From GLAAD
By Glennisha Morgan
Trans activist and Orange Is the New Black star Laverne Cox has just became the first transgender woman of color to receive GLAAD’s Stephen F. Kolzak Award. The producer and actress will be presented the award at the 25th annual GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles on April 12. Academy Award-nominated actress Ellen Page will present Cox with her honor, which is awarded to an openly LGBT media professional who has made a significant difference in promoting equality.
Page, who recently came out, mentioned Cox as one of her inspirations. ”Laverne Cox has reshaped the way Americans see transgender people and raised the bar in diverse representations of the LGBT community in entertainment,” said GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis. “She is not only a talented actress, but a truly transformational leader in the LGBT equality movement. Through her tireless commitment to building understanding and acceptance through education and advocacy, Laverne is moving equality forward both on and off the screen.”
ELIXHER would like to congratulate Cox on her award and thank her for her tireless efforts towards trans awareness and equality.
