WELCOME HOME: An Open Letter to Black LGBT Celebs
ELIXHER founder and editor-in-chief pens a heartfelt letter to black LGBT celebs saying Black notables do not have a responsibility to share their sexuality…but ‘family’ is waiting to love them if they do: “When I first fell for a woman, it was one of the most exhilarating and frightening experiences of my life. Part of me wanted to scream the news atop the nearest Brooklyn brownstone. Another side decided to hide from anyone that would diminish this part of my identity. I was proud but protective. Queen Latifah Tells Us About Her New Talk Show
This isn’t Latifah’s first talk show. Her previous syndicated chatfest of the same name ran from 1999 to 2001 and was billed as a “Dear Abby for the Hip-Hop Generation.” The new show has a new format, and Latifah has told reporters she won’t hold back, except when it comes to her private life.
She once told The New York Times, “I don’t have a problem discussing the topic of somebody being gay, but I do have a problem discussing my personal life. … I don’t care if people think I’m gay or not. Assume whatever you want. You do it anyway.”

Janelle Monae Dances Around Sexuality Query
There’s nothing wrong with being lesbian, gay, or bisexual, says singer Janelle Monae, but she won’t say where she falls on the sexual orientation spectrum.
“Women are amazing … and so are guys,” Monae recently told Sway on his Sway in the Morning Sirius XM show. “There’s nothing wrong with being bisexual, there’s nothing wrong with being lesbian or gay. I am an advocate. I have friends who are in same-sex relationships, and I feel love has no sexual orientation. Love has no religious belief. Love is the purest and most important thing we can possess for ourselves and for others.”
When Sway asked if Monae dates men or women, though, she replied that this information is private, due to career considerations. “I keep my personal life very much to myself,” she said. “I want everybody to focus on my music. I also don’t want to let anybody down. I want women to still be attracted to me. Go get my album! I want men to still be attracted to me, so I have to be political in this. So I can’t really tell y’all!”
