Poet’s CornHer: Phases of Moonshine

Poet’s CornHer: Phases of Moonshine

She threw back her head often as I had done mine before.

Ritual maybe, solemn washing away a new, a renewable rekindling of her spirit. Eyes closed. They said, “Keep your eyes closed, sealed, shut, and forever stay this way.” This will ensure your safety. Nostrils flared the flare of any person of color, wide to the side, broad roundness. Lips parted, part way open welcoming exhaling and releasing at the same time.

Wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, lover, teacher, nurturer, healer, witch, goddess, grandmother, ancestors pouring libations giving a bath of cleansing and love in spiritual honor, mi amor for without you there would be no existence, without you I foresee no future.

She loves me.

I hold her close to my heart for protection. She cuddles me at night. Angel wings, the soft wings of her touch. She enlightens me; mouth parted whispering wishes of hope into my ears. I threw my head back and feel the drops of water on my forehead.
