Maryland Lesbian Divorce Case Is Sent to State Court of Appeals

A lesbian couple who married in California in 2010 are fighting a Maryland judge’s ruling that he can not grant them a divorce, since Maryland does not recognize same-sex marriage. Although Maryland recently voted to legalize same-sex marriages, the law is not yet in effect, and opponents plan to attempt repealing it. Read more at The Huffington Post.

Buenos Aires Introduces Bill to Grant Same Sex Marriages to Tourists

The cultural hub of Argentina is planning to create new legislation which will allow non-residents to marry if they can provide a photocopy of their passport and current address. Argentina legalized same-sex marriage in 2010. Read more at San Diego Gay and Lesbian News.

Australian Survey Highlights Mental Health Issues for LGBT people

The recent survey found that 22% of LGBT people had been diagnosed with anxiety, and 30% with depression-a rate much higher than the general population’s. 80% reported they had experienced “intense anxiety” in the past year. Analysts point to the study as evidence that there is still much to address about LGBT discrimination. Read more at Gay News Network.

Study Suggests Intense Homophobia and Same-Sex Attraction are Correlated

A study conducted among four large groups of college students in the US and Germany has indicated a link between high levels of bigotry against homosexuality and homoerotic attraction. Research indicated that those who were more aggressively hostile towards homosexuality often had higher arousal responses to homoerotic media. Read more about the study on USA Today.
